Most people don't have as much experience with canvas prints as we have.

We have a variety of canvas prints NZ around our house, ranging from modest 5x7" paintings in our office to custom-sized prints in our living room that take up a bigger portion of the wall space.

Furthermore, we've developed numerous canvas prints for our photography customers, including individuals, families, and large organizations, so our opinions on what makes them excellent are based on our experience!

We've had a lot of amazing successes and a few duds throughout the years. We've fine-tuned our method to ensure that we obtain the print we want every time. This procedure begins with preparing a beautiful picture for printing, followed by working with a reputed printer to ensure that the quality is maintained in the final result.

What is it about canvas prints that make them so popular?

It's easy to understand why canvas prints have been so popular since they developed from simple paintings in ancient times to the sophisticated patterns we see today.

They're undoubtedly one of the most engaging methods to display photographs nowadays.

While standard paper prints are still lovely, canvas prints have a distinct style, and we like the feel of the canvas — it truly adds something special!

From what we've seen, Canvas prints are really popular since they make photographs seem more like works of art that you'd find in a museum. Flat patterns lack the depth of the canvas, which makes it significantly more intriguing.

These canvases are often printed with images of family members and posted around the home, and given as gifts to parents and grandparents. Others will include pictures of gorgeous landscapes, weddings, or other significant events, among other things.

In the end, it's the ability to design the canvas that will appeal to everyone from children to grandparents!!

  1. Context of the Canvas (Home, Office, Gift, Etc.)

Split Canvas Prints

The context is the first thing you should think about when buying a canvas print. Most likely, you already have a solid notion of this, but it's critical to consider how it could influence your choices throughout the remainder of the process.

Generally speaking, photographs translated to canvas prints for personal use, such as decorating a family room, should be supplied with photos that are meaningful to you. Even the best canvas in the world won't survive in the house if the image being produced isn't engaging in the long run.

In our tiny world, the canvases we print are occasionally for corporations or paying customers (like couples after we've delivered their wedding images!). We don't get to choose the picture, but the value of a high-quality print cannot be overstated.

As part of the context scenario, you'll want to consider where the canvas print will be displayed. If you're aiming to preserve a particular color feel and style, this will affect the canvas size you choose and the individual photos you choose. We tend to keep our home's style quite contemporary, with a lot of black and white tones, but we like to add pops of color in our prints to liven things up.

  1. Use Canvas Prints as Decoration

Whatever your motive for having a canvas print done, the fact remains that it will be utilized as a décor item in some form. Given this, it's a good idea to consider the print's beauty and placement in the setting.

We just discussed how we often utilize prints to give a splash of color, but there are a few more basic options that some might neglect.

Canvas prints provide a splash of color to any room.

The concept is just as significant as the way of bringing color to the room. We'll get into this in a minute, but for now, choose a basic (black and white, contemporary) or more sophisticated theme (medieval, movie inspired, etc.).

  1. What Does the Image Mean?

While not every picture you turn into a canvas painting needs to have significance, you'll discover that printing items that mean something to you make your room seem much more personal. Family images are arguably the most evident significant photos we have, yet "meaning" is subjective.

We like to show off some of our favorite trip images since they transport us to another place every time we look at them on the walls of our home. We have a large-sized canvas poster of Multnomah Falls in Oregon to the right of us as we type this — stunning scenery in and of itself, a terrific photo we got, and a lovely memory. Finding photographs that bring back these memories has a tremendous influence on your print selection!

Quality of the image

4. Your photo's quality will directly impact the canvas's quality.

Fortunately, most cameras (and even many mobile phones) create images with sufficient resolution to be printed on canvas. You should have no problems if your picture file is at least 2MB in size.

The size of the print is another something you should think about. Smaller picture files may transfer well to a smaller 8x8 canvas print, but they may seem pixelated if blown up to a very big size.

We create high-resolution JPEG files of 20-30MB with our Canon 5D Mark III and Mark IV cameras. We were able to blow up these photographs to bespoke canvas print sizes without sacrificing quality.

The essential thing to remember is that your picture file should have a resolution of 300 DPI or above (source).

DPI stands for "dots per inch" and is connected to PPI, "pixels per inch." Lowering this too low will result in a poor-quality print; you'll want to maintain it above 300+ to preserve the required detail.

When selecting a canvas print, you should think about the topic of your photograph carefully.

Is it appropriate for the location you've chosen?

Composition No. 6

The composition of our picture is really important to us as photographers. This is probably a minor point to consider in a canvas print being utilized as basic wall decoration. However, the picture's composition might influence how it enhances the space.

A photograph that properly uses leading lines to catch the viewer's attention, for example, will be more attention-grabbing. Not to mention that it will give your room more depth. The canvas print is 2D, and the wall it sits on is 2D, yet with the assistance of a picture like this, a spectator may be transported into a 3D environment.

Check out our 101 Digital Photography Tips for additional information on composition.

Because the subject matter is engaging and the composition serves to bring the viewer into the frame, a snapshot like this one would immediately add something to a space:

  1. Printing on Canvas (single image, collage, etc.)

Most customers who want a canvas print prefer to have a single picture done. And that's fantastic!

However, before you click the "buy" button, you should think about several other things.

Some individuals choose to use Photoshop (or another photo editing tool) to build an image collage, then print a single canvas with a collection of photos on it. We've seen customers do this with their favorite wedding and infant images!

Alternatively, you may have many canvas prints that suit the same theme or the same picture presented on different tracks (meant to be hung side-by-side).

The triptych canvas print series, as seen below, is a popular method.

  1. Quality of Printing

While we've just discussed how vital high picture quality is, print quality also significantly impacts how your print looks.

Using a reputable canvas printer like CanvasPop is best to secure a high-quality print.

We only use CanvasPop to print canvases of our art, both for ourselves and our clients. You may go to CanvasPop's website to view their current specials and discounts. We also posted a fantastic CanvasPop review to share more about our experience with them.

  1. Is it better to have a frame or not?

Once you've got your canvas print, you'll have to decide whether you want to leave it as is or frame it.

We usually use a wrapped canvas for all canvases that we print at home. The picture you submit is "wrapped" around the sides of a wrapped canvas. This gives it a more seamless appearance. Others may like a basic white or black border, which is equally attractive.

We don't think a canvas has to be framed since these natural canvas print looks are so good right out of the box.

However, if you want a frame, you'll get one. And it'll look fantastic!

The most important thing to remember is to choose a high-quality floater frame designed exclusively for hanging a canvas print in the size you need.

We've utilized frames like these for our professional picture printing job (select your size on Amazon). Clients (both people and organizations) often like the framed appearance, and these frames are attractive, high-quality, and easy to install.

Pre-framed canvas prints are also available from several online retailers. Here's a look at CanvasPop's framed print possibilities.

10 . Choosing the Right Shipping Methods

Not only should you buy your canvas print from a trustworthy dealer for quality assurance, but you should also know that they will send it to you safely.

Fortunately, no matter who we've worked with (CanvasPop, ZNO, White House Printing, and others), they've always packed our prints safely and securely. As long as you select a reputable vendor, you should have no problems.

When employing a regular printing and shipping arrangement, canvas prints typically take two weeks or more from purchase to receipt. You may often have your purchase expedited – as we've done on specialized work we required in a hurry – but this normally comes at a fee.
