5 Foods That Improve Dental Health — Dental On The Bay

Plus, green tea contains fluoride, which enhances enamel strength by raising the amount of calcium available for teeth to use while neutralizing acid that attacks tooth enamel during the day (when you're not eating or drinking anything).

Oatmeal is a complex carbohydrate that can help keep you feeling full all morning; however, what makes oatmeal special is that it contains properties that prevent bacteria from sticking to teeth, which reduces the risk of cavities. Oatmeal fibre also helps form soft plugs in the spaces between teeth where food can get trapped and start decaying rapidly, preventing gum disease.

Sweet potatoes are another complex carbohydrate food with several benefits towards dental health aside from being full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium: like oatmeal, these orange-fleshed potatoes keep your mouth naturally clean because carbohydrates help decrease the production of acid by bacteria; additionally, sweet potatoes contain salivary enzymes that are similar to those found in fruits and vegetables which can prevent bacteria from sticking to teeth.
